Week 2, Tuesday, June 14, 2016
Last week the 505s took a week off after the intense week racing the North American Championships the prior week. Three Lasers came out and did some practice starts, but no formal racing.
This week, Bellingham Bay was kicking up her heels a bit. When the RC first came out, winds were 15 knots gusting to well over 20 knots, but by the time 6:00 p.m. rolled around, the winds had abated some to 11-12 knots with gusts to 16-17 knots. While the wind was a bit much for the Lasers who opted not to come out this evening, this made for some exciting sailing, both upwind and under spinnaker. Miles Johannessen and Paul Von Grey got in some great heavy air practice in preparation for the World Championships, with Eric Coburn and Paul Pihl and their respective crews pushing them every step of the way.
Thanks to the Race Committee and Safety Boat crews for the great job they did managing the course and for volunteering their time and to the 505 fleet for coming out to play!
