While light winds were predicted, mother nature had her own ideas. The day started with a nice 13 knot breeze from the south, resulting in a one-tack beat to the south end of Portage Island. Two boats, Cougar Hunter and Boomer opted to go clockwise around the Lummi Island with the other eight boats going counter clockwise. This decision proved to be the undoing for the two smaller boats as they were becalmed in Hale Pass while the other eight boats saw nothing less than about 6 knots of wind for the entire race, making it one of the faster Around Lummi Island races in recent years.
