The Marmetta Cup is a pursuit race in which each boat’s handicap is used along with the course length to compute its start time with the slower boats starting ahead of the faster boats. Ideally, if all are equally matched and sailed to their rating, then the boats should theoretically finish at the same time.
The forecast the day before for light winds on Saturday changed overnight and the fleet enjoyed winds from 8 to 18 knots, with the wind building for the finish. The top four boats consolidated right at the finish at the Outfall Buoy with Cougar Hunter coming in on a screaming reach from clear across the bay to edge out Flying Circus, Hravn and Blackfoot (in that finish order), all of whom finished within 30 seconds of each other. Boomer was a little farther behind in a fast race where most finished before 2:00 pm.
Thanks to Randy Nulle for officiating at the Skipper’s Meeting and to Todd Koetje for calculating the start times and starting the boats at their designated time.
