Bellingham Yacht Club Youth Sailing Program Overview

Bellingham Yacht Club has a very active Youth Sailing Program that includes summer sailing and racing classes taught by US Sailing certifiend instructors, weekly dinghy racing, a Youth Club which sponsors many social activities and a youth fun room with a pool table, ping pong table, electric darts, air hockey table and a foosball table. For youths interested in racing at the high school level, BYC has been a primary sponsor of the Whatcom Community High School Sailing Team since its founding in 2008.

Our Fleet is Growing!!

In addition to our International Optimist and Laser single-handed boats, last year Bellingham Yacht Club purchased four new Flying Junior (FJ) sailboats, one of two boat types commonly used in the area for high school and collegiate racing. We are also partnering with Bellingham Sailing Foundation to lease three more FJ’s, which BSF has purchased, for a total of seven boats. These are double-handed boats with a simple sail plan which makes them easy to learn while promoting team work among the students as well as allowing an instructor to be onboard when necessary. These new boats will also allow us to offer a greater variety of class offerings.
